Logic cuts for multilevel generalized assignment problems
نویسندگان
چکیده
In the multilevel generalized assignment problem (MGAP) agents can perform tasks at more than one efficiency level. Important manufacturing problems, such as lot sizing, can be easily formulated as MGAPs; however, the large number of variables in the related 01 integer program makes it hard to find optimal solutions to these problems, even when using powerful commercial optimization packages. The MGAP includes a set of knapsack constraints, one per agent, that can be useful for generating simple logical constraints or logic cuts. We exploit the fact that logic cuts can be generated in linear time and can be easily added to the model before solving it with classical branch and bound methodology. We generate all contiguous 1-cuts for every knapsack in large MGAP’s problems and report the effect of adding these cuts in our experimental results.

Tabu search for the multilevel generalized assignment problem
The multilevel generalized assignment problem (MGAP) differs from the classical GAP in that agents can perform tasks at more than one efficiency level. Important manufacturing problems, such as lot sizing, can be formulated as MGAPs; however, the large number of variables in the related 0-1 integer program makes the use of commercial optimization packages impractical. In this paper, we present ...
متن کاملMUSTANG: state assignment of finite state machines targeting multilevel logic implementations
In this paper, we address the problem of the state assignment for synchronous finite state machines (FSM), targeted towards multilevel combinational logic and feedback register implementations. Optimal state assignment aims at a minimum area implementation. All previous work in automatic FSM state assignment has been directed at programmable logic array (PLA) i.e., two-level logic implementatio...
متن کاملA Benders\' Decomposition Based Solution Method for Solving User Equilibrium Problem: Deterministic and Stochastic Cases
The traffic assignment problem is one of the most important problems for analyzing and optimizing the transportation network to find optimal flows. This study presented a new formulation based on a generalized Benders' decomposition approach to solve its important part, i.e. user equilibrium problems, in deterministic and stochastic cases. The new approach decomposed the problem into a master p...
متن کاملStabilized branch-and-cut-and-price for the generalized assignment problem
The Generalized Assignment Problem (GAP) is a classic scheduling problem with many applications. We propose a branch-and-cut-andprice for that problem featuring a stabilization mechanism to accelerate column generation convergence. We also propose ellipsoidal cuts, a new way of transforming the exact algorithm into a powerful heuristic, in the same spirit of the cuts recently proposed by Fische...
متن کاملTightening a Discrete Formulation of the Quadratic Assignment Problem
The quadratic assignment problem is a well studied and notoriously difficult combinatorial problem. Recently, a discrete linear formulation of the quadratic assignment problem was presented that solved five previously unsolved instances from the quadratic assignment library, QAPLIB, to optimality. That formulation worked especially well on sparse instances. In this paper we show how to tighten ...
